Sue's Cheese
Charlotte
8 slices white bread,
buttered and cubed
½ cup dry white wine
½ pound grated cheddar cheese
4 eggs
2 cup milk
1 tsp worstershire sauce
½ tsp. prepared mustard
Salt, onion salt & pepper to taste
Arrange half the bread
cubes in the bottom of a greased 8 x 8" baking dish. Sprinkle
¼ c of wine over bread. Cover bread with half the cheese.
Repeat layers with remaining bread, wine, and cheese. Beat eggs
slightly, stir in milk and seasonings. Pour over bread. Let stand
at least an hour (I usually do it the night before
)
Bake at 325° for
one hour.
Our favorite additions
are Italian sausage, and the chicken or turkey version is very tasty.
I have done it with ham and bacon, and it's just delish! This has
been our Christmas breakfast for eons.
